Need hints on debugging weird association problem

Hi,

I'm having a weird association problem, where my N810 would not associate to
AP that happily supports other WiFi clients (notebooks, iPhones, Nokia
smartphone, etc). Full info is in bug 4676 (

I want to have a better understanding of what's going on during association.
With wpa_supplicant, for example, I could have tried to raise debug level
and see what kind of requests and responses are going through the driver.

N810 does not have wpa_supplicant, though.

I've googled that with a bit of driver patching wpa_supplicant could be made
to work. However it is not clear whether or not I would get the debug
capabilities I need this way.

Could you please give me any hints on how to collect more debug info and
hopefuly have that bug fixed?
