Summary:
Pidgin on OS2008 causes the menu and status bar to disappear

Detailed description
I installed the latest version of OS2008 on my N800, then I started Pidgin and setup my accounts. Then I closed pidgin
by clicking the X button and noticed that there was still a pidgin icon in my status bar so I clicked on it and my status
bar and left hand menu dissapeared. I then clicked on the home menu as it was still available and the menu and status
bars reappeared.

I have the same problem with my N800 (diablo) with several versions
of Pidgin, which has annoyed me for one year.

May it's bug of window manager.
But should be workaround because other applets in status bar
work correctly.

This isn't really a bug with Pidgin, but the window manager.
Pidgin does nothing special, except show and hide the window.
The problem is that the Pidgin status bar icon is itself a window,
and that probably confuses the window manager.

I confirm this bug on N810. You can get UI back if tap to tray
- UI appeares again.

I can confirm this bug is repeatable with Pidgin version 2.3.1-1nix0
and OS2008 version 2.2007.51-3. The workaround does not require
a restart of Pidgin. Simply click Home to open the home menu,
then click Home again to close the home menu, and all of the
missing icons reappear and the Pidgin window appears.

That said, it is an annoying bug, and frightening for a newbie
since almost all of the OS2008 UI disappears.

One more thing. I am running Pidgin 2.3.1

Same problem with me too on OS2008 on a N800!

TO REPRODUCE:

1. Close the BUDDY LIST by clicking the "X" button.

2. Click the Pidgin System Tray icon (small white square with
either a green dot or white clock)

3. Notice that the application dock on the left has disappeared.
Also noticed that ALL the icons in the System Tray
has disappeared!

NOTE: to recover, press the "Home" button on the N800,
then click the Pidgin Buddy List entry.

I love Pidgin on my N800! Pidgin is the Killer App on my N800.
PLEASE FIX!

Also happening to me with 2.2007.50-2. It only seems to happen
when using the X button to close the Pidgin window and the only
solution seems to be to quit Pidgin and restart it.

I can duplicate this bug. I'm running 2.2007.50-2.
