I'm agree with you about obligation to have mobile phone.

At this time, speedcamalerter only allows data connection. I
can unblock this feature and list all of N810 saved connections.
So users can use other mobile hotspots.

But I can't change the FoxyTag registration process, I just develop
speedcamalerter, I'm not member of FoxyTag team :(
I don't know why they need phone number :S

I should add that mobile voice service is cheaper using a data-only
plan, and a portable hotspot, coupled with wifi voip, than it
is to use a mobile phone.

It's most unreasonable to expect users to buy a cellphone, and
get a voice plan, just to send an SMS message to register.

Sure, it's online only, but that does not imply having a mobile
phone.  There are a few ways people get internet access from
their vehicle:

* portable hotspot (like a Mifi or Cradlepoint)
* satellite
* dd-wrt router in bridge mode with a hopping application
* appliance connected directly via GSM modem (like a Huawei
e220)

So certainly it is a bug because users with online access in
their cars cannot register.

FoxyTag service is only an online service. So if you want to
use it (speedcamalerter or other application based on FoxyTag
database) in your car you must have a mobile phone with a data
access.
So I think it's not really a bug.
